What Does The Colors In Wrist Bands Mean

Spring Roman

If you, like me, a balcony or a garden, you may have noticed this week, while time has not softened (the opposite!), a multitude of small fresh green shoots that link them straight nose skyward.

I did not fail to be struck, when I made that comment, by a coincidence singular, but far from coincidental. You know I live with my students to the rhythm of the Roman calendar (see http://cheminsantiques.blogspot.com/2010/11/halloween-chez-les-romains.html ). But precisely, this week, January 24 to 31, the Romans celebrated the Paganalia , a festival of sowing to protect the tender shoots that point in January, with sacrifice to Tellus, the goddess of the Earth and Ceres, the goddess of agriculture. And February 7, a week later, was regarded by them as the first day of spring, for the same reasons.

So you have a thought for the Romans, this weekend, making inspection of your flower ...
